Climb the Firemen’s Tower for a view over the old centre and the ornate façade of the former Pannonia Hotel.
The Firemen’s Tower, built as a lookout for fires, rises 45 metres above the historic core. Its stairs lead to views over the town’s layered rooftops. Nearby, the Roman Catholic Cathedral anchors the central streets, while the former Pannonia Hotel displays an elaborate Secession façade.
The neo-Gothic Vécsey House now houses the art collection and commemorates the 1711 Peace of Satu Mare, signed there after the Rákóczi uprising. The Reformed Church with Chains adds an older Protestant landmark. Together these sites make a compact walk through the town’s shifting religious, political and architectural history.
