Start at the Upper Silesian Museum, whose collections span archaeology, regional history, natural history and art. The Silesian Opera has performed here since 1945, when its postwar story began with Moniuszko’s Halka.
Walk around the central squares to read the city’s layered architecture, then look for remnants of the medieval defensive walls built from local dolomite. The old mining region’s transport legacy is also visible in the Upper Silesian Narrow-Gauge Railway, whose route begins in the area.
