Stroll the grounds of Kasteel Cortewalle past its orangery and iron suspension bridge.
Estimated journey times
Start at Kasteel Cortewalle, a fifteenth-century water castle set in a large landscape park south of the centre. The estate includes a coach house, orangery and an iron suspension bridge, so the grounds tell as much as the fortified residence. Continue to Hof ter Saksen, where an eighteenth-century castle anchors a wooded park. Its arboretum and plant collections make this a quieter counterpart to Cortewalle’s historic estate.
These two domains show how the Waasland’s rural edge met the historic road between Antwerp and Ghent. At Hof ter Saksen, look for the long beech avenues and mature trees as well as the manor. The sites are separate, so plan a walk or cycle between them; together they offer a route through Beveren’s architecture, cultivated gardens and wooded surroundings.
